Midwife Services

Certified midwives are considered autonomous care providers in Colorado. That means there is no need to see an OB for your routine prenatal care. Jessica can monitor all your vitals: blood pressure, pulse, weight, fetal heartbeat, and urine checks, as well as collecting blood samples, culture swabs, and even pap smears. She also offers the convenience of in-office ultrasound! All of your appointments will be scheduled for 1 hour long, in her family friendly office. Most of that time will be spent chatting about nutrition, normal physical changes, concerns, natural remedies to address any complaints, preparing for birth, planning for baby, and of course there will be plenty of time for all of your question. We have excellent referral relationships with wonderful local OBs, MFM, Ultrasound Clinics, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, etc if the need arises. You will also have direct access to your midwife 24/7 with any urgent issues between appointments!

Your midwife team will usually arrive in your home after active labor has begun and stay with you until about 2-3 hours postpartum. It is our goal to help you create a space where you are safe and comfortable to have your baby! We will monitor you and your baby's vitals, set up the birth equipment, offer labor support and encourage you and your family through this natural process. Your partner can be as involved as you'd like, and even help "catch" the baby!

After the birth, we continue to monitor you and your baby, as we help you get breastfeeding established, clean up the birth space, take out the trash, start a load of laundry, prepare you a snack, and help you shower and get tucked into your clean bed. Jessica then does a thorough newborn exam, including weight, measurements, vitamin K and eye ointment (if desired) to make sure your baby is healthy...all in the convenience of your own home!

Water birth is a wonderful option for helping to relax and manage your natural birth. Welcoming your baby into a warm tub of water is also a gentle transition for them. In fact, most of our "water babies" cry very little after birth. they simply open their eyes and calmly take in their new world.

All of our clients are welcome to use one of our lovely water birth tubs, at no additional cost. Jessica will usually deliver the tub to your home, during the 36-37 week Home Visit. Water hose, faucet adapter and pump are included. We also drain and take down the tub, after the birth. No muss, no fuss!

Postpartum care is one of the best parts about hiring a midwife! Jessica offers up to 6 weeks of postpartum care for you AND your baby. The first visit will take place in the convenience of your home, 24-48 hours after your birth. Jessica will weigh your baby, check for jaundice, perform the CCHD (Critical Congenital Heart Disease) screen, and collect the Newborn Metabolic screen (PKU). She will also assess your overall recovery and help with breastfeeding. We continue postpartum and wee-baby care with several in-office appointments over the next few weeks. Jessica also offers a Pap Smear at your 6 week appointment, if you desire. We have excellent referral relationships with wonderful local Lactation Consultants, Therapists, Audiologists, Pediatricians, etc if the need arises. You will also have direct access to your midwife 24/7 with any urgent issue between visits!
